How do you know where to start your search for any Edmonton midwives?

Hi! I am Cynthia — a maternity & newborn photographer based in Edmonton & surrounding areas in Alberta. I had been under midwifery care when expecting my children. By no means that this list is exhaustive, but if your midwifery care is not listed, please reach out to me and I can update the blog article! It is important to note that midwifery care in Edmonton is not listed in any ranking order.

The adage is true: apply on the Alberta Association of Midwives’ website once you discover being pregnant.

Where can I give birth when choosing care from Edmonton Midwives?

It really is up to you! You have a choice of the hospital, birth centre or your home. Some hotels will allow births; you would have to call ahead. A helpful Facebook group to join would be Edmonton Motherhood. You can ask for anecdotal reviews from mothers who had any midwifery care.

Why Should We Choose to Work with Edmonton Midwives?

If you have a low-risk pregnancy, you might want to consider midwifery care in your birth plan. Edmonton midwives are mother-centric with their approaches to help reduce birth interventions while giving a customized experience during appointments. Therefore, you’d never have to feel rushed during your one-on-one appointments with your midwives. Midwives will work with you from prenatal care to birth and up to 6-weeks post-partum.

Alberta Health Services helps fund Edmonton midwives. So, there are no extra costs to be supported by a midwife outside of getting birthing supplies (towels, olive oil, renting a birth pool).
