An orchard, a pond, mature old-growth trees, wildflowers, and multiple distinct ceremony and reception spaces on a single garden property. This isn’t a barn dressed up with string lights. This is refined outdoor elegance with farm-to-table dining from produce and livestock raised right on the property.

This heritage home sits near the river valley, surrounded by mature trees and walking distance to some of the most beautiful natural landscapes in the city. At 60 guests maximum, it’s as intimate as outdoor venues get.
The outdoor ceremony space is quietly stunning, and the combination of the log cabin exterior with the modern interior gives couples the best of both aesthetics. I photographed an intimate ceremony here, and the portraits along the river with the trees overhead were some of the most naturally beautiful images I’ve captured in Edmonton.

West River’s Edge is the hidden gem on this list. A 194-acre setting with a pavilion overlooking a stocked fish pond, two outdoor fireplaces, and a balcony that gives you river valley views, all for a maximum of 40 guests. This isn’t a venue for couples who want a large wedding. This is a venue for couples who want every single person in the room to feel the weight of the moment.
I’ve photographed multiple small weddings here with Oui Do Events, and the intimacy of the setting is what makes it extraordinary. The river valley trails are steps away for portraits, the fireplaces create warmth both literally and in photographs, and the natural beauty of the grounds carries the entire atmosphere without any decoration.

Tips for Planning an Outdoor Wedding Near Edmonton
Always have a weather plan. Alberta skies can change in minutes. Every venue on this list has an indoor backup, but make sure you talk through the rain plan with your venue coordinator and your photographer well before the day.
Protect golden hour. The quality of light in the hour before sunset is irreplaceable for outdoor portraits. Build your timeline around it. As your photographer, I’ll always advocate for this.
Think about guest comfort. Outdoor ceremonies are beautiful, but consider the time of year. Provide shade in summer, wraps in cooler months, and bug spray if needed. Happy guests make for better energy in your photos.
Book a photographer who knows the property. Every minute spent scouting on the day is a minute you’re not making images. When your photographer has worked at the venue before, they already know where the light falls, where the best backdrops are, and how to move through the property efficiently.

When is the best time of year for an outdoor wedding in Edmonton?
June through September offers the most reliable weather, with July and August being the warmest. Some of the most beautiful outdoor weddings I’ve photographed, though, have been in early September when the light is golden and the first hint of fall colour appears.
What else should I consider for logistics?
