Hastings Lake Garden Venue is proof you don’t have to drive far from Edmonton to find a wedding backdrop that looks like something out of a period drama. It’s about a 40-minute drive out, but because the property sits behind mature trees and winding paths, it feels like a different world the moment you arrive — gardens, a glass greenhouse, and a rustic cabin that barely need decorating. Here’s what to know before you book it.
Most couples say the same thing the moment they arrive: it doesn’t feel like Edmonton anymore. That’s intentional — Hastings Lake Gardens was built to feel private and a little hidden, so you get that transported-away-from-the-city feeling without an hour-long drive. On top of that, light and airy garden venues are genuinely rare this close to the city, which is part of why this property has become one of my favourites to shoot.
Hastings Lake Gardens actually give you three distinct settings on one property, so your ceremony, portraits, and getting-ready photos can all look completely different without ever leaving the grounds.

This is the classic pick, and it’s the most popular ceremony space on the property for good reason. Because it’s framed by flowers and greenery, it photographs beautifully in every season, whether you’re getting married in June or October.
Don’t think of the greenhouse as just a rain plan — in fact, plenty of couples choose it as their primary ceremony space. Its bright, airy light and surrounding greenery give it an indoor-outdoor feel, and because it’s weatherproof, that also means real peace of mind no matter what the forecast says.

The cabin isn’t used for ceremonies, but it’s where the bridal suite lives, and it’s one of my favourite spots for portraits. So if you want rustic, textured photos to sit alongside your garden ceremony shots, this is where you’ll get them.
Ceremonies here comfortably seat around 125 guests, though the venue has hosted weddings up to 200, and you’re free to bring your own caterer, DJ, and florist — there’s no pressure to use a preferred vendor list, though the venue is happy to share recommendations if you want them.
What’s included also tends to surprise people. On top of ceremony chairs, cocktail tables, a speaker, and a microphone, couples get access to the décor pieces and signage already on-site. One detail almost everyone loves is the golf cart, which the venue makes available for getting the wedding party and photographers around the property for photos. Meanwhile, the bridal suite and groom’s den are both private, on-site spaces, so you get more time with your people before the ceremony and less time driving between getting-ready locations.

Because I’ve shot here in the middle of summer, I can tell you the harsh midday sun is manageable with the right technique — a strobe handles it well, and any green cast from the surrounding trees is an easy fix in post. That said, golden hour on this property is genuinely exceptional, so it’s worth building extra time into your timeline to take advantage of it. My favourite spots to shoot include the Gardens & Gazebo, the greenhouse, the rustic cabin area, the tree-lined pathways, and the large pond. Honestly, there isn’t a bad angle here.
A few things worth knowing before you book:
Hastings Lake Gardens hosts weddings from June through December. Most couples book 12 to 18 months out, especially for summer and early fall dates, but it’s always worth reaching out even on a shorter timeline, since availability opens up more often than you’d expect.

If you want a romantic, garden-forward wedding without having to decorate from scratch, the Hastings Lake garden venue is worth touring. It’s especially well-suited to couples who want a variety of backdrops in one place, since you can move between the gardens, the greenhouse, and the cabin without leaving the property.
