Hey there! Some weddings feel like a party at a friend’s house, and those are my favourite kind. The lawn is green, the trees are tall and everyone has time to breathe. Minji and Michael’s Dragonfly Inn Sherwood Park wedding was exactly that.

I’m Cynthia, an Edmonton wedding photographer who loves candid, artful moments and real, unposed joy. If you’d like to see more of the couples I’ve photographed, my wedding portfolio is a great place to start.

In this post, I’ll walk you through the venue, Minji and Michael’s day and a few tips if you’re thinking about getting married at the Dragonfly Inn yourself.

About the Dragonfly Inn Sherwood Park Wedding Venue

The Dragonfly Inn sits on a big, green acreage in Sherwood Park, just east of Edmonton. You’ll know you’ve arrived when you spot the wrought iron “Welcome” sign with its little dragonfly. On Minji and Michael’s day, gold and white balloons and a “Wedding This Way” sign pointed guests up the lawn.

The property is full of mature spruce, pine and leafy trees. The house has stone details, a large deck and garden paths lined with flowers. Best of all, there’s plenty of open lawn, so you have room for a ceremony, a reception tent and lots of wandering.

The Dragonfly Inn holds up to 75 guests, and Minji and Michael’s day had about 60 of their favourite people.

A private residence, not a public venue

This part matters: the Dragonfly Inn is a private home that also hosts weddings. It isn’t a hotel or a banquet hall, so you won’t find a big booking office or an online calendar.

If you’d like to get married here, contact the owner directly to ask about dates, guest numbers and pricing. The owner, Melanie, is the person to reach out to, and you can find the contact details on the Dragonfly Inn website.

Please be respectful, too! Because it’s someone’s home, don’t drop by the property without an appointment.

Portraits in the garden

The day felt soft and natural from the start. Minji wore a sleek, sleeveless satin gown with a high neckline, a leg slit and a beaded floral detail on one shoulder. She carried a bouquet of white roses, while Michael wore a tan three-piece suit with a dark green tie and brown leather shoes.

We took their portraits on the brick garden path beside the house. The purple blooms and the stone wall made a quiet, romantic backdrop. Then Michael leaned in for a forehead kiss, and Minji couldn’t stop smiling.

The wedding party

Their wedding party kept things small and relaxed. The groomsman wore a pinstriped tan suit, and the bridesmaid wore an off-the-shoulder sage dress that matched the greenery all through the day.

Instead of lining everyone up, I had them walk together across the lawn in front of the spruce trees. Within seconds, they were laughing. That’s the kind of photo I love most, because it looks like them.

An outdoor ceremony under the evergreens

The ceremony was set up on the lawn against a wall of evergreens, with Chiavari chairs facing a round arch of white roses and greenery. Because the trees framed everything so well, the setup didn’t need much more to feel special.

As guests found their seats, you could see the whole property at once: the house, the deck strung with lights and the white reception tent waiting on the lawn. Kids wandered the aisle while family settled in. It felt easy and unhurried, like a backyard celebration done beautifully.

The ceremony happened under a high noon sun, which is a tricky time to photograph. One easy fix helped a lot: we placed Minji on the side of the aisle where she wasn’t squinting into the light, so her face stayed soft and relaxed in the photos.

A tented reception on the lawn

The reception happened in a white tent with arched windows and bistro lights along the ceiling. The head table had a greenery runner, white roses and candles, with a second floral arch behind it. White florals on tall pillars flanked the table, and a wooden dance floor sat right in front.

Since the same white and green palette carried from the ceremony into the tent, the whole day felt connected.

Tips for Your Dragonfly Inn Sherwood Park Wedding

Plan your portraits around the garden paths

The brick paths and flower beds beside the house are perfect for couple portraits. They give you colour and texture without leaving the property. Meanwhile, the tall spruce trees on the lawn make a clean, green backdrop for wedding party photos.

Think about the light

Open lawn means a lot of sun. On a bright day, shade from the big trees helps keep faces soft. For that reason, leave time in your timeline for portraits in the evening, when the light gets warmer.

Have a rain plan

Much of the day happens outdoors, so ask your wedding planner what happens if it rains, and whether the tent can host the ceremony too.

Book early and ask the right questions

Because the Dragonfly Inn is a private home, dates may be limited. When you contact the owner, ask about guest numbers, the tent, rentals, parking and timing for setup and teardown.
